Bowney Girls in STEM- A Three day Camp at the Visiola Foundation

Joanna Hesse, Angela Quartey, Sandra Osei and Mavis Amponsah all JHS 3 students of Berekuso L/A were among 20 participants selected to participate in a three day STEM Camp organized by the Visiola Foundation from the 27th to 29th of January 2017. Prior to being selected, each girl with assistance from Bowney filled online application which was submitted in the name of the organization. All program expenses was paid for by the Visiola Foundation The camp exposed the girls to courses in robotics, programming and animations. They participated in group exercises and made presentations which boosted their self -confidence and increased their critical thinking skills. One of the tutors was impressed by the beautiful journals our girls carried to the camp so they could document their learnings. Keeping Journals is habit we inculcate in girls during A New Dawn class

Also, the girls had the opportunity to meet and be mentored by distinguished women in the technology space, Farida Bedwei, CTO of Logiciel and Lucy Quist, MD Airtel Ghana who spoke to girls about the importance of STEM and encouraged them to pursue careers in the space. On the final day, Lade Araba, the Co Founder and President of Visiola foundation selected the robotics team as the best group after final group presentations. Angela Quartey was among the winning team and together with her team members they received a cash prize of 500 Ghana cedis.
